New Media Installations
Artwork that utilizes technology: online media, live streaming video or data, multi-channel projections, or syncing audio and video.
Where art meets technology.
Artists are pushing the boundaries of art and technology. It is not just a one-channel projection anymore: It now can encompass online media, live streaming video, multi-channel projections, or syncing audio and video. I'm highly conversant in new media art as well as providing art institutions guidance and installation instructions for complex technical art installations.
Well, I do have a background in technology.
My multiple years of experience in technology and working with streaming video, audio, and web programming makes me ideal to help art institutions with new media art installations.
Case Study.
Syncing Video for the California-Pacific Triennial at the Orange County Museum of Art
Formerly known as the California Biennial, OCMA re-envisioned this important survey of contemporary California art and re-launched it as the California-Pacific Triennial with participating artists representing a cross-section of countries throughout the Pacific rim.
Unique to this exhibition was the use of synchronized video in two separate installations using digital signage media players from BrightSign. This type of technology had never been implemented before at the museum. My technical knowledge of video, audio, compression and syncing video allowed me to install these two works.
For these installations, the video and sound had to be perfectly synced creating a very unique challenge. It was a success though: Both installations ran smoothly and without interruption throughout the entire exhibition.
Artists were Shaun Gladwell, Sydney, Australia, and Yoshua Okón, Mexico City, Mexico.
