SoCal MFA

I co-curated and designed SoCal MFA, an inaugural survey exhibition of MFA & MA students in Southern California that showcased the varied voices of these graduate students.

This inaugural exhibition of SoCal MFA exhibited the works of current MFA & MA students in Southern California and showcased the varied voices of these graduate students. SoCal MFA featured over 80 works from 36 artists that traversed the mediums of drawing and painting, illustration, photography, printmaking, sculpting, new media, and ceramics within the 20,000+ square-foot art space.

The newly conceived exhibition addressed California art within the context of a broad cross-section of MFA & MA programs throughout Southern California. Seeing the need to showcase current MFA & MA students in a place central to most Southern California universities, we set to work on creating a large survey exhibition at the Millard Sheets Art Center in Pomona, CA.

SoCal MFA accepted submissions from programs all over Southern California and exhibited works from Azusa Pacific University, California State University, Fullerton, California State University, Long Beach, California State University, Northridge, California State University, San Bernardino, Claremont Graduate University, University of California, Irvine, and University of California, Riverside. Through a mixture of showcasing new and traditional art techniques, SoCal MFA was an exciting opportunity to experience the works of emerging artists from all over Southern California.

Marketing & PR

I also provided the graphic design, marketing, and PR for the exhibition. We worked closely with the Millard Sheets Art Center's marketing team to come up with a marketing plan and it paid off. We had a very well-attended exhibition with multiple artists and curators visiting throughout the exhibition.

SoCal MFA was a survey exhibition at the Millard Sheets Art Center curated by myself, Chrystal McCluney & Candice Chovanec and was juried by Steve Comba, associate director of the Pomona College Museum of Art.
